A WABAUNSEE COUNTY WOMAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN THE DEATH OF A MANHATTAN MAN. 32-YEAR OLD CATHY ITONEY IS CHARGED WITH THE SECOND DEGREE MURDER OF THE DEATH OF THOMAS LEE ITONEY. THOMAS ITONEY DIED BACK IN OCTOBER AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO HASN’T BEEN RELEASED YET. SHE IS BEING HELD ON $1,000,000 BOND AND IS BEING HELD IN WABAUNSEE COUNTY JAIL AND BEING TRANSFERRED TO RILEY COUNTY.


IN THE WRONGFUL CONVICTION CASE WE TOLD YOU ABOUT YESTERDAY, THE MANHATTAN CITY COMMISSION HAS APPROVED THE $7.5 MILLION SETTELMENT. IN 1981 EDDIE JAMES LOWERY WAS CONVICTED AND JAILED FOR 10 YEARS IN THE RAPE OF AN OGDEN WOMAN. HE WAS RELEASED WHEN DNA TESTS PROVED IT WASN’T HIM. LOWERY SUED 18 PARTIES TOTAL AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO SIGN THE LAWSUIT WITHIN 10 DAYS.


REPUBLICAN SCOTT BROWN IS THE NEW SENATOR ELECT IN THE STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS. BROWN WON BY A LARGE MARGIN OVER DEMOCRAT MARTHA COAKLEY. BROWN’S WIN MARKS THE FIRST TIME MASSACHUSETTS HAS ELECTED A REPUBLICAN SINCE 1972.


MORE UNITED STATES MILITARY SHIPS HAVE BEEN SENT TO HAITI. ONE OF THE SHIPS WILL BE ABLE TO HELP REMOVE DEBRIS BLOCKING THE MAIN PORT. DEFENSE SECRETARY ROBERT GATES SIGNED THE ORDERS TO SEND THE PORT-CLEARING SHIP WITH CRANES TO PORT-AU-PRINCE. THE PORT IS BEING BLOCKED BY DEBRIS THAT ARE PREVENTING LARGER SHIPS FROM DOCKING WHICH IS POSTPONING THE DELIVERY OF VITAL FOOD AND OTHER RELIEF.


A GEORGIA BASED GROUP IS SUGGESTING THAT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY, OR LADY LIBERTY, DESERVES A MALE COUNTERPART. RODNEY COOK OF THE NATIONAL MONUMENTS FOUNDATION SAYS THAT MR. LIBERTY WOULD BE THE SAME SIZE AS THE MRS. LIBERTY. THE BASE WOULD HOLD A MONUMENT TO SOUTH CAROLINA’S ROLE IN THE REVOLUTION AND CIVIL WAR. THE NEW STATUE WOULD COST AS MUCH AS 150 MILLION DOLLARS.
