In Local News…

According to KTKA…Kansas State University is a national leader in Ecological Genomics. Although, the university is the only school presently exploring the new science. Now, most of you are probably wondering what ecological genomics means. An associate professor of biology at K-state Mark Herman says ecological genomics is the study of how organisms deal with their environment at the genetic level. Herman with host an annual symposium at Kansas City this November.

The Manhattan Mercury Reports…Brad Paisley will be joined by Lady Antebellum at this year’s Country Stampede. President of Country Stampede Wayne Rouse said approximately thirty thousand people voted for Lady Antebellum and Paisley to headline the event. Paisley was announced in June.

Twenty Six teachers from China will arrive in Manhattan next Friday. During their visit, the teachers will peek in on classes at Amanda Arnold Elementary as well as the Stone House Early Childhood Education Center. A group of teachers from Kansas State visited China in 2009. The chinese teachers will get a feel for american culture by dining at a Pizza Hut and take part in horseback riding at a flint hills ranch.

In State News…

KCTV 5 reports…During parents and teachers conference…shots are usually aimed at students. In olathe last night parent-teacher conferences were shut down after people reported shots being fired nearby. Police have not confirmed shots were fired. Streets in the surrounding area were shut down as police scoured the area looking for evidence.

In National News…

Reported by Fox 8 in Cleveland…3 year old Vince Lamatie (Lamb-uh-tee) had to call 911. Lamatie’s dad fell down the stairs and without hesitation…called 911. Vince’s parents did not teach the boy to call the number instead the child learned from spongebob. Vince’s father suffered a concussion and a sore back and ribs but is fine nonetheless.

In Entertainment News…

It’s been a rough week for parents from classic sitcoms. Barabara Billingsley who played June Cleaver on Leave it to Beaver died on Monday. Now..83 year old Tom Bosley died due to heart failure. His agent confirmed the death adding that Bosley also had lung cancer. Bosley is most famous for his role as Howard Cunningham in Happy Days. TV Guide ranked Cunningham ninth on its list of the 50 greatest TV dads.
