In Local News….

According to the Manhattan Mercury…Riley County Police Officers used tasers 17 times in 2010….and every time…the taser proved effective. Because of this…officers may be required to carry them. Currently…35 officers carry tasers.

As reported by the Associated Press…tuition for K-State students is expected to increase by 4 percent. In-State tuition would increase to two hundred and thirty one dollars while out-of-state tuition would increase to over six hundred and ten dollars. Around the country, other state universities are feeling the bind of tight state budgets. At the University of Arizona, tuition is expected to increase by 20 percent. Students at UCLA and other California institutions have protested the tuition hikes.

In State News…

The Topeka Capitol-Journal reports….The Kansas Expocentre needs a sixty million dollar expansion. Shawnee county residents need to decide whether they want to foot the bill. The exhibition hall will increase by thirty thousand feet and a livestock pavilion will also be added. These two features are one just one of the many highlights of the expansion. Commision Chairman Vick Miller said that letting the expocentre deteriorate would have a negative effect on the economy. According to Miller, the expocentre currently generates tens of millions of dollars.

KCTV Five reports…..Former KU football star and current starting defensive back for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aqib Talib is a person of interest in a Garland Texas incident. Allegedley Tahlib hit Shannon Billings with a handgun. Tahlib then fired shots at Billings. Billings is the boyfriend of Talib’s sister. The police report says that incident happened after an argument between Talib’s sister and Billings. Billings was arrested after police discovered that he had two pending family violence offenses.

The Kansas City Star reports…Grandview High School was evacuated on Monday after someone made a bomb threat. Grandview is located in the Kansas City metro area. Police searched the entire school, but were unable to find a bomb.

In Entertainment News…
According to the Associated Press….Singer and Actress Beyonce Knowles is searching for a manager. Her father and former manager Matthew Knowles decided to part ways after nearly 20 years. Matthew Knowles told the associated press that the split was mutual. Knowles also managed former Destinys Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Rowland and Knowles parted ways in 2009, while Williams gaves Knowles the axe just one year later. In a released statement, Beyonce said, "He is my father for life and I love my dad dearly. I am grateful for everything he has taught me.” It is still unclear on who Beyonce’s new manager will be.
