LOCAL NEWS

A Faculty/Staff golf tournament is underway today.
The tournament is being played at Rolling Meadows golf course near Junction City. The event hosts current and retired university staff, visiting professors, graduate assistants, and other full-time employees. For more information on the tournament and others like it you can contact 532-6980.

The Riley County Fire Department responded to a fire near McDowell Creek on Wednesday. The fire started from a tree that had been struck by lightning on Monday and continued to burn 45 acres near the ranch of Frank and Jan Lyons, no injuries were reported.

STATE NEWS

A Topeka man was hospitalized this morning after being shot. According to the Topeka Capital Journal, the shooting took place at 3:30 this morning near central park. The 19 year old victim was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center where it was determined his wounds were not life threatening.

NATIONAL NEWS

A large earthquake shook a large swath of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands last night. CBS News reports, in result, Alaska state officials issued a tsunami warning for some of the coastal areas. The warning was later cancel after being in affect for only an hour.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

An undercover cop was attacked by Bieber security. TMZ says during an autograph session at a New York City Macy’s Pop singer Justin Bieber became concerned when an man in street clothes rushed towards him so he had security grab him. Little did Bieber know that the man was an undercover policeman there to help with mob issues. No other conflicts occurred after the man identified himself.

SPORTS

As projected Kyrie Irving became a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers last night. Irving was the first overall pick coming before Arizona’s Derrick Williams who was selected second. A total of six Big 12 players were selected in the draft, but K-state’s Jacob Pullen was not one of them. Although undrafted, Pullen’s NBA hopes are not lost as he still has a chance to sign with any interested team as a free agent.
