K-STATE WILL AWARD NEW SCHOLARSHIPS IN 2011

The University and Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services have partnered together for nearly 15 years. Thanks to an $80,000 commitment from Chartwells, K-state announces the new Nancy Kassebaum Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to four freshman enrolled in any curriculum and demonstrate a commitment to public service and a strong desire to continue to work in the realm.

A NEW BUSINESS OPENS UP IN AGGIEVILLE TO THE SMELL OF ONIONS

Cozy Inn hamburgers had their grand opening yesterday on the eastern edge of Aggieville. Within the first hour of business many customers filed into the restaurant to get a taste of the newest food in Manhattan. Cozy Inn grills their burgers right in front of their customers then bags them up to go. The Manhattan location is now the third to open up in Kansas with the other two in Salina and Junction City.

A BODY WAS FOUND LAST NIGHT IN KIOWA COUNTY
Kansas Highway Patrol officials identified the victim as Ky Maggard of Haviland. The Topeka capital journal reports Maggard was killed after his pickup truck crashed on a gravel road a mile west of Haviland. Maggard was 14 years of age.

NATIONAL NEWS

A FLOODED CITY IN THE NORTHERN U.S. TO EVACUATE

Thousands of citizens in Minot, North Dakota have until 6pm tonight to leave the town. According to the Associated Press, the Souris River near the city is projected to top the city’s levees within two days. Mayor Curt Zimbelman says crews are focusing efforts on building dikes to protect critical infrastructure such as the sewer system, water plants, schools and city hall.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

AN AMC NETWORK ACTOR SIGNS ON MORE EPISODES

According to Deadline Hollywood, actor Jon Hamm locked into an 8-figure deal for three years making him one of the highest paid cable actors. Hamm stars on the hit 1960s drama “Mad Men” as Don Draper, a talented advertisement executive. Hamm previously had only two years left on his contract.

SPORTS

The Royals opened up a three game series last night versus the Diamondbacks… Arizona lefty Joe Saunders threw seven innings, giving up only two runs to help the d-backs win 7 to 2. Both teams go at it again tonight from the “K” at 7:10pm.

With tomorrow’s NBA draft on mind, K-state’s Jacob Pullen in on the minds of several Wildcat fans. ESPN.com projects Pullen as a either a second round draft pick or undrafted. This spring, Pullen became the career scoring record holder at Kansas State surpassing Mike Evans’ 2,132 points.
