In Local News…

According to the Manhattan Mercury…A 23-year old Manhattan women was found dead inside her home. Laura Rickstrew did not show up for work and her employer asked police to make a welfare check. No foul play is suspected and police believe Rickstrew died from medical complications.

The Manhattan Mercury Reports…Riley County Commissioners approved 135,000 dollars that will be used to pay for public works projects and the Riley County Police Department. 35 thousand of the 135 thousand will pay for the paving of the Riley County Law Enforcement Center.

In State News…

According to the Topeka Capital Journal…58 year old Robert Donald Clark who was convicted in 2009 by a jury for lewd fondling of two female relatives under the age of 14 was sentenced to life in prison. The fondling started when the girls were 9 and 11. The sexual assault took place over an 18 month period. District Attorney Chad Taylor says…This sentence all but guarantees that a dangerous sex offender will be permanently removed from our community. Clark will serve his life sentence at the Kansas Department of Corrections.

The Topeka Capital Journal Reports…A female arrived at the Osage County Sheriffs office around 5 p.m. and reported she had been shot and stabbed. Police later spotted a car matching the victim’s description. Deputies attempted to stop the golden mini-van, but there efforts were useless. The driver made his way from Osage County to Shawnee County. Deputies from both counties were involved in the chase that reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. The driver of the golden mini-van eventually hit a pillar. This caused the mini-van to catch fire. Authorities pulled the man from the burning vehicle. The driver of the vehicle is dead. Authorities have not released his name. Nor have they released the name of the female victim. The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

Hallmark Cards will honored Wednesday for its help with childhood immunizations. In 1995…Hallmark began donating cards to state governors who would send the cards to new parents to remind them about childhood immunizations. The fifteen year program began in Missouri and Kansas and has expanded to 33 states. Hallmark will be honored at the Plaza Library among 6 other quote…heroes.

In Entertainment News…
According to the AP…Disney execs were less than thrilled with Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Captain Sparrow. Depp sat down for an interview in January’s Vanity Fair with rocker Patti Smith. In the interview…Depp says one Disney exec asked if the flamboyant Sparrow was gay. To which Depp responded all my characters are gay. Depp adds that this made her very nervous. Depp was nominated for an Oscar for his role as Captain Sparrow.
